Transportation Operations Technician II

The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician II. The position involves highway maintenance tasks including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, removing litter, ditching, and in winter assisting with plowing and salting. Overtime may be required and the role may involve vehicle and equipment maintenance. Environmental Factors Duties require the ability to withstand extreme outdoor weather, be available for overtime during heavy snowfall or emergencies, report outside normal schedule, be reachable by phone, lift tools and materials, and handle work near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, debris, and moving traffic. A random drug and alcohol‑testing program is required. Minimum Qualifications One (1) year of work experience in construction, equipment operation, or related manual labor, including one season of operating a snowplow with wings or six (6) months operating medium or heavy equipment such as graders, excavators, and backhoes. OR upon successful completion of original probation as a Transportation Operations Technician I and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Special Requirements A Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required. An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of the assigned workstation. Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement is required within the first six months of employment. An incumbent must complete all VTTC required coursework within one (1) year or be enrolled. CDL Application Requirements Applicants must provide detailed employment information for the past 10 years, including: A list of names and addresses of past employers where the applicant operated a commercial motor vehicle. The dates of employment with those employers. The reason for leaving each employment.
