We're looking for a reliable Assembly Mechanic to join our mechanical assembly team.

This role is focused on assembling, fitting, installing, and testing large industrial crane equipment and related mechanical components. You will work hands-on with structural assemblies, trolleys, hoists, end trucks, brakes, gearboxes, wheels, shafts, bearings, couplings, ladders, platforms, guards, and other crane components.

If you like building heavy equipment, reading drawings, using tools, solving fit-up problems, and seeing a finished crane come together from major components, this is the kind of work you will be doing.

What This Role Really Is

You will spend your shift assembling and fitting mechanical components for overhead cranes and other industrial lifting equipment. Work may include installing machinery, aligning parts, setting brakes, mounting covers, assembling trolleys, fitting platforms and ladders, installing end trucks, preparing equipment for testing, and supporting shipment preparation.

You will work alongside experienced mechanics, welders, electricians, engineers, project managers, and quality personnel. The work is hands-on, physical, and detail-oriented. Every job is different, so mechanical aptitude, patience, and the ability to follow drawings matter.

This role is built to grow. Entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude can learn from experienced mechanics. Experienced mechanics can take on more complex assemblies, layout work, alignment tasks, troubleshooting, and independent job ownership.

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

First 30 Days

• Learn American Crane's shop layout, safety expectations, and assembly process
• Become familiar with crane components, tools, drawings, and job documentation
• Assist experienced mechanics with mechanical assembly tasks
• Begin identifying parts, hardware, and assemblies by job number and drawing

Days 3160

• Perform basic assembly tasks with less supervision
• Use mechanical drawings and measuring tools to support fit-up and installation
• Assist with installing components such as brackets, covers, ladders, platforms, brakes, wheels, end trucks, and trolley components
• Communicate missing parts, drawing questions, and fit-up issues clearly

Days 6190

• Take on more complex mechanical assembly tasks
• Support equipment setup, inspection, testing, and shipment preparation
• Demonstrate safe rigging awareness and good judgment around large components
• Show reliability, ownership, and steady improvement in mechanical skills

What You'll Do

Mechanical Assembly

• Assemble and fit mechanical components for overhead cranes and industrial lifting equipment
• Install, align, dismantle, and reassemble crane components and related equipment
• Install components such as wheels, shafts, bearings, brakes, gearboxes, couplings, covers, guards, ladders, platforms, and end trucks
• Assist with trolley, bridge, runway, and other crane-related assemblies
• Use hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, measuring instruments, and general shop equipment

Drawing and Fit-Up Work

• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and assembly details
• Verify parts, hardware, and assemblies against drawings and job requirements
• Identify fit-up issues, missing parts, or drawing concerns and communicate them clearly
• Perform layout, measuring, drilling, tapping, bolting, and adjustment work as required

Testing, Quality, and Shipping Support

• Support mechanical testing and functional checks before shipment
• Assist with correcting punch-list items and preparing equipment for customer inspection
• Help prepare assemblies for shipment, including removing, labeling, packing, and inventorying components
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas
• Follow all company safety policies and required PPE

This role requires availability to work full-time hours on-site (no remote work available) Monday-Friday 5:00AM1:30PM.

Candidates should be located within a reasonable daily commuting distance of 531 Old Swede Road, Douglassville, PA 19518.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Technical school, trade school, mechanical training, or related hands-on experience preferred

Experience

• Entry level to 4 years of experience in mechanical assembly, equipment assembly, industrial assembly, millwright work, machinery assembly, crane assembly, heavy equipment repair, or related mechanical work
• Experience with overhead cranes, hoists, rigging, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, brakes, gearboxes, or industrial equipment is helpful but not required

• Ability to read or learn to read mechanical drawings and blueprints
