Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room using physician preference cards and open instruments and supplies utilizing sterile technique
• Perform the surgical scrub prior to patient entry and assist in draping the patient to establish the operative field
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures, anticipating needs and maintaining efficiency throughout
• Recognize and correct breaks in sterile technique; participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as directed by the circulating nurse
• Preserve and ensure correct identification of operative specimens for laboratory analysis
• Clean and sterilize contaminated instruments, equipment, and supplies; maintain cleanliness of operating room areas

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician school or program
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire
• Knowledge of basic human anatomy and basic first-aid methods and practices
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in a Labor and Delivery setting, including clerical and technical direct patient care activities
• Experience assisting in the training or orientation of surgical technicians
• Familiarity with electrosurgical machines, diagnostic lights, and other specialized surgical equipment
