Position Summary: 

The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring our facilities and grounds reflect the highest standards of care, safety, and professionalism. This position supports the overall operations of the funeral home by maintaining a clean, well-kept, and respectful environment for the families we serve.

This role requires attention to detail, a proactive approach to facility upkeep, and the ability to work with discretion and empathy in a sensitive setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

Facility Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical 
• Complete general repairs such as painting, patching, and light carpentry 
• Ensure all equipment and systems are functioning properly and safely  

Custodial & Interior Care

• Maintain cleanliness and presentation of all interior spaces, including chapels, visitation rooms, offices, and restrooms 
• Perform routine cleaning, sanitation, and upkeep to ensure a welcoming environment  

Grounds & Exterior Maintenance

• Maintain landscaped areas as needed, including mowing, edging, trimming, and seasonal upkeep 
• Perform snow and ice removal as needed to ensure safe access to the property 
• Ensure exterior areas remain clean, orderly, and well-maintained  

Vehicle Care

• Clean and maintain company vehicles, including hearses and service vehicles 
• May assist with driving vehicles as needed (as applicable)  

Safety & Compliance

• Monitor the facility to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations 
• Identify and report potential hazards or maintenance concerns 
• Maintain secure and safe premises for employees and families  

Inventory & Supplies

• Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and maintenance materials 
• Coordinate reordering as needed

Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated capacity to provide compassionate and professional service to families.
• Willingness and availability to work evenings and weekends and holidays.
• Must successfully pass a background check and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must maintain insurability under company vehicle use policies. 
• Previous experience in general maintenance, facilities, landscaping, or custodial work preferred 
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and landscaping equipment

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: 

This role requires both physical stamina and emotional resilience to perform essential duties in a professional and compassionate setting. The work environment and physical expectations include:

• Work occurs in funeral homes, preparation rooms, cemeteries, and off-site service locations.
• Frequent interaction with grieving families and the public; emotional resilience and professionalism are essential. 
• The ability to lift or move up to 75 pounds (e.g., caskets or equipment) with or without reasonable accommodation. 
• Potential or regular exposure to hazardous chemicals and biological materials related to embalming and preparation procedures.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift for extended periods.
• Flexible availability including evening, weekend, holidays, and on-call rotation.
• Possible exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions during services or transfers. 
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required during preparation procedures. 
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Combination of indoor and outdoor work environments 
• Work performed in a calm, respectful, and service-focused environment
