Staff Accountant, Client Accounting Services

We're making significant investments in technology to modernize how we work, and we want someone who's excited to help us put those tools to use. This is a hands‑on client accounting seat. Location: Chatham, New Jersey | On‑site 3 days/week, 2 days remote What you'll do Manage full‑cycle bookkeeping — transactions, reconciliations, the general ledger, and monthly financials Run payroll end‑to‑end, including tax withholdings and compliance Prepare and file sales/use tax returns accurately and on time Handle month‑end close, journal entries, and supporting documentation Prepare clean, tax‑preparer‑ready workpapers so books tie out and hand off to the tax team without rework Be a clear, professional point of contact for clients Spot manual, repetitive, or error‑prone workflows — and help fix them with better systems, automation, and AI tools Help document and standardize processes so the work scales cleanly across clients Take on ad‑hoc client projects, learning directly from firm leadership along the way What we're looking for Solid accounting fundamentals and 3-5 years of relevant experience Hands‑on experience with bookkeeping, payroll, and/or sales tax filings Proficient with accounting/payroll software (QuickBooks Online, Xero, Justworks, ADP) and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) A genuine interest in improving processes through technology — automations, integrations, or AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT Sharp attention to detail and a low tolerance for errors Proactive and eager to learn — you ask questions, absorb coaching, and run with what you're taught Comfortable working on‑site in our NJ office 3 days a week Bonus: a degree in Accounting/Finance, multi‑client (CAS) firm experience, or multi‑state sales tax exposure Why Namu Advisory Independently owned — your work benefits clients and colleagues, not outside investors Significant technology investment underway — we want someone excited to help put modern tools and AI to work, not just adapt to them Hands‑on mentorship — we're in the office together three days a week on purpose, so you learn fast and grow quickly A real path to greater responsibility as the firm grows Continuous learning and professional development support This role is not for someone looking to clock in, do the same tasks the same way, and clock out.
