University of Washington: Academic Personnel & Faculty: School of Medicine: Pediatrics: Pediatrics, Bioethics Location Seattle, WA Open Date Aug 20, 2026 Description The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Bioethics and Palliative Care at the University of Washington as well as the Center for Pediatric Nursing Research and the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics and Palliative Care at Seattle Children’s Research Institute invite applications for a faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor, without tenure by reason of funding, or full Professor, with an anticipated start date of Summer 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment beginning July 2027. Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. As the second largest Department in the UW School of Medicine, Pediatrics has twenty-one clinical divisions with approximately 1,400 academic appointments, including approximately 650 paid faculty members, 134 residents, 70 ACGME fellows, 230 staff employees and over 600 volunteer/affiliate faculty and continues to grow each year. The Department of Pediatrics is a close affiliate of Seattle Children's Hospital (SCH) and Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI). Faculty members appointed in the Department are located at various institutions (including Seattle Children’s, UW Medicine, and FHCRC). The successful candidate will be expected to conduct high-quality research as a principal investigator, focusing on scientific inquiry aligned with the nursing and full organization strategic goals and plan. The successful candidate will participate in the Center for Pediatric Nursing Research serving on the steering committee, and providing a high level of expertise to mentor and support nursing staff through the research process by involving them on study teams. They will also function as a principal investigator in the Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics and Palliative Care. They will additionally represent the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Research Institute as a nursing scientist locally, regionally, and nationally. They will develop collaboarative relationships with academic partners and disseminate research findings internally and externally. Candidates will be considered across a range of interests relevant to pediatric palliative care and/or bioethics (including related topics such as medical decision-making, communication science, health services, psychosocial impacts of serious childhood illness, and health disparities) supported by independent extramural funding. The base salary range for this position will be: Associate Professors $12,750 - $13,770 per month ($153,000 - $165,240 annually), Professors with PhD $14,500 - $18,870 per month ($174,000 - $226,440 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative duty supplement (ADS). All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
