Fish Biologist

As a Fish Biologist, you will perform the following duties:

• Train and prepare observers for at sea data collection, species identification, proper collection, labeling and packaging of specimen samples. Direct observers in data collection to include but not limited to protected species, fisheries research data, seabirds and marine mammal encounters.
• Analyze observer data and provide feedback to observers on collected data and biological specimens. Provide guidance to observers on effective data collection techniques while observers are at sea. Ensure observers are compliant with documenting protected species forms.
• Develop and maintain debriefing and data editing procedures. Design new approaches for data collection surveys and methodologies for compilation and distribution to provide quality information for fisheries management, conservation and development.

Position requirements:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a government vehicle. This position requires the operation of a Federal motor vehicle.
• When required, incumbent may be responsible for coordination of observers on fishing vessels, transportation of observers and gear, fish and collected specimens.
