Administrative Specialist - Sanitation

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
This is a fast-paced position providing administrative, customer service, and operational support to the Sanitation Department. Assists with customer inquiries, recordkeeping, billing support, purchasing, data entry, route and service tracking, and general office operations related to sanitation, transfer station, and landfill activities. Supports departmental staff and the public by helping ensure efficient daily operations and accurate maintenance of records and information.NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic recordkeeping, filing, data entry, and document management practices Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, and professional communication standards Knowledge of basic cash handling, purchasing, invoice processing, and reconciliation procedures Familiarity with municipal services, sanitation operations, utility services, or related public service environments preferred Familiarity with computer software and business systems used for tracking, reporting, and communication Skilled in organization and time management Skilled in problem-solving and critical thinking Skill in providing courteous and professional customer service to employees, residents, vendors, and the public Skill in verbal and written communication, including the ability to explain information clearly and professionally Skill in organizing work, maintaining records, and managing multiple assignments with attention to detail Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality Ability to learn departmental policies, procedures, ordinances, and operational practices Ability to maintain accurate records and enter data into software systems with a reasonable degree of accuracy Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other departments, and the public Ability to handle customer concerns and respond to questions in a professional and helpful manner Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and complete assignments with minimal supervision Ability to adapt to changing priorities, operational needs, and interruptions in a fast-paced environment Ability to independently manage assigned work and use initiative and sound judgment to resolve routine issues within established guidelines and develop solutions to more complex challengesEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by relevant coursework, and three (3) years of secretarial experience.CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
