United States, California, City of Industry A Carpenter constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, metal, wallboard, etc., using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes. While maintaining the necessary production and quality required to complete a project and exceeding the customers' expectations. Responsibilities Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, metal, wallboard, etc., using both hand and power tools, ensuring compliance with local building codes. Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans to identify required materials and dimensions. Select specified types of materials. Prepare layouts using tape, framing square, etc., marking cutting and assembly lines on materials with pencil, chalk, and marking gauge. Shape materials to prescribed measurements, using power and hand tools; assemble, cut, and shape materials and fasten them together with applicable fasteners. Verify trueness of structures before completion. Apply shock‑absorbing, sound‑deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls. Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates. Work safely and maintain a safe work environment. Complete work on time while maintaining quality standards. Qualifications & Physical Requirements Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy. Apply shop mathematics to solve problems; plan work and select proper tools. Compare and see differences in size, shape, and form. Picture solid objects from drawings or diagrams. Perform a variety of duties that may change often and rate information using measurable standards. Physically able to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders; reach for, handle, and manipulate objects and materials; lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; and see well (either naturally or with correction). Wages NOTE: In the LA area wages range from $19.50 per hour for entry level apprentices to $47.24 per hour for Journeyman. Wages are determined by union scale as determined in the current collective bargaining agreement. NOTE: In the San Diego area wages range from $19.50 per hour for entry level apprentices to $37.53 per hour for Journeyman.
