Adjunct Clinical Instructor-Surgical Technology

Adjunct Clinical Instructor – Surgical Technology Program We are currently looking for an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for our Surgical Technology program. Adjunct faculty members report to their respective Dean and may have a dotted-line reporting responsibility to a specified Department/Program Director or General Education Chair. They are student‑centered teaching mentors who assist students to progress through their academic programs to completion. The role involves instruction and assessment of student learning. Clinicals are usually Monday through Friday during the day; labs are during the evening. Responsibilities Facilitate student learning in face‑to‑face, online, hybrid, and/or HyFlex environments, deliver effective and career‑relevant instruction, and create an environment conducive to learning. Evaluate student learning for all assigned classes, respond to student inquiries, and grade all assignments in a timely manner. Engage students using collaborative learning, experiential learning, problem‑based learning, or other student engagement instructional techniques. Deliver course curriculum utilizing the University’s learning management system. Participate in course and program‑level learning assessments, including helping define student learning outcomes, selecting and administering measures, evaluating student performance, suggesting changes to improve student learning, and identifying updates and corrections to courses. Work with the Dean, Department Chair, and/or Program Director on the development and revision of course maps and review or revise course materials where appropriate. Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, externship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program. Participate in student retention efforts, reaching out to students who have excessive absences, documenting retention activities, and ensuring students are aware of University services that may be of value to their successful completion of the academic program. Communicate availability (e.g., office hours) to all students via email, phone, or other personal contact. Encouraged to attend graduation. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Surgical Technologist certification through NBSTSA is required. Two years of experience as a certified surgical technologist. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Must possess excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting deadlines. Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and travel to multiple locations as dictated by the course schedule. Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, as well as move about the campus. Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face‑to‑face, via telephone, and through electronic media such as email, recordings, and virtual meetings.
