Tenured Associate/Full Professor in Biology

The Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences (KDIS) at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) invites applications for a tenured Professorship in Biology at the Associate or Full rank. We seek broadly trained integrative biology candidates whose research connects with one or more themes in our department (Health, Brain, and Planet). We are especially enthusiastic about candidates who apply interdisciplinary approaches that span multiple levels of analysis. Specific domain expertise can include, but is not limited, to cellular, molecular, and developmental biology, neuroscience, physiology, genomics, ecology, and evolution. The candidate’s research program is expected to include the application and/or development of computational approaches to study biological systems. The position will begin on July 1, 2027.

The candidate must demonstrate evidence of a successful, active research program that involves undergraduate students, as evidenced by a track record of high-quality scholarship and a research statement that outlines a clear plan for continuing their research effort at CMC. The candidate must also demonstrate evidence of sustained excellence in teaching and mentoring through a thoughtful teaching statement and supporting evidence from prior teaching experiences.

KDIS offers an innovative and transformational Integrated Sciences program that is organized around three challenges: Health (Genomics, Systems Biology, and Health), Brain (Brain, Learning, and Decision Sciences), and Planet (Climate, Energy, and the Environment). The KDIS faculty have a key role in developing and implementing a program that serves as an incubator for new approaches and fosters a culture of inclusion, creativity, and continuous improvement. We are seeking a senior level candidate with prior experience in developing and designing curriculum and incorporating innovative pedagogies in the classroom. The successful candidate will also mentor junior faculty, and demonstrate leadership in service to the college commensurate with rank. 

The teaching load at CMC is two courses per semester. The successful candidate will contribute to the continued development and teaching of an introductory course in biological principles (SCI 031LB) that will be taken by all Integrated Sciences majors and will include integration with the foundational curriculum in chemistry, physics, and computation. Additional teaching will include upper-division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise in support of the department’s three themes and/or a general education course taken by all CMC students that integrates science and computation (SCI 010L).

Anticipated Annual Salary Range:

$140,000 - $210,000 depending on rank and experience.
