Scope Of Position The practice of nursing by a Licensed Practical Nurse is defined as the performing of selected tasks and sharing of responsibility under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities Under the direction of an RN, perform selected tasks and activities to obtain and report information to assist the RN in the assessment, planning and evaluation of patient needs. Contributes to the nursing assessment by: Collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data in an accurate and timely manner. This includes: Observation about condition or change in patient status Signs and symptoms that deviate from normal health status Participate in the development of the patient’s care plan. Participate in delegating and giving direct care based on priority of needs and established goals. Providing an environment conductive to safety and health. Documents nursing interventions and responses to care. Communicating nursing interventions and responses to care to appropriate members of the healthcare team. Under the direction of the RN, perform patient related activities, medication administration, diagnostic testing, therapeutic treatments, which contribute to safe and efficient delivery of patient care. Supports and participates in quality initiatives. Maintains accountability for professional competency. Demonstrates knowledge and critical thinking to promote optimal patient care. Performs related duties as assigned. Requirements State of CT LPN License Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. CPR certified. CPI certified. Ability to read and write English with a command of verbal English. Ability to work well and collaboratively with other members of the health care team Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures. Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility. Ability to work in a time-oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements i.e., blood borne pathogens, physical requirements include lifting and pulling of patients, pushing of stretchers, standing, and walking.
