Adjunct, Graphic DesignSaint Joseph's University's Department of Art & Art History has a need for highly qualified adjunct faculty to teach Graphic Design courses on a semester-by-semester basis. Likely assignments include introductory and intermediate graphic design courses, depending on departmental needs. Part-time adjunct faculty will teach assigned graphic design courses, support student learning, and foster an inclusive, studio-focused classroom environment. Course assignments may vary each semester and encompass a range of design topics, with the expectation that instructors bring contemporary professional insight and pedagogical clarity to the classroom.Saint Joseph's University (SJU) offers a wide variety of bachelor's, master's, doctoral, associate, and certificate programs. With a commitment to personalized attention through a low faculty to student ratio, SJU may call on the expertise of adjunct instructors to complement the work of full-time faculty across all of its colleges and schools. SJU appoints part-time, non-tenure track adjunct instructors on a semester-to-semester basis with no guarantee of consecutive appointments. Re-appointment is based on university need, student enrollment, and satisfactory performance. Applicants for these positions are screened on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the department chair. Compensation for adjunct instructors is commensurate with educational credentials, professional experience and instructional background. Adjunct instructors are bound to the terms and conditions of employment at Saint Joseph's University, including but not limited to the Faculty Handbook. More information about SJU's academic programs is available online.Please submit a Cover letter, CV with website, 1 sample syllabus and 3 references.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide support and guidance to studentsInstruct an assigned course providing syllabi and other instructional materialsUse of university learning management systems to deliver instructionTeaching assigned graphic design course(s)Preparing course materials, assignments, and assessmentsProviding guidance, feedback, and mentorship to studentsHolding regular office hours Reporting mid-semester and final grades electronicallyUsing Canvas or another learning management systemMaintaining consistent communication with studentsSecondary Duties & ResponsibilitiesParticipating in occasional meetings with the Department Chair or program facultyCollaborating with course coordinators to ensure curricular consistency and qualitySupporting departmental goals related to student learning and engagementMinimum Qualifications:MFA in Graphic Design or a closely related field OR equivalent professional experience.Professional experience in graphic design, visual communication, or related creative industries.Proficiency with industry-standard software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud.PreferredPrior college-level teaching experienceFlexibility and responsiveness in adapting course content to meet the needs of students with varied backgroundsStrong communication and organizational skillsProfessional or teaching experience in UX, interaction design, or digital design.Physical and Other RequirementsMay require standing for long periods of timeMay require talking for long periods of timeMay require carrying course materialsModality:In-person onlyAdjunct compensation is determined by education and relevant work experience.
