Description:
The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period.
The primary focus for this position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment.
The Surgical Technician supports the surgeon during the surgical procedure.
This individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served.
The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties.
Effective prioritization, planning, and problem solving are essential due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures.
The individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations.
A basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique is required and should be applied in all patient and family interactions.
The Surgical Technician displays aseptic technique in performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes.
This role requires responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation.
Consistent performance of sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure is essential.
Knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice are required.
