Anatomy Assistant Professor (CUSOM)

Position: Anatomy Assistant Professor (CUSOM) Department: Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine Status: Full Time Position Summary This faculty member will be part of the Department of Anatomy at Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM).This individual is responsible for teaching anatomy courses and other topics relative to expertise in one or more of the following: preclinical, integrated medical school curriculum, Physician Assistant (PA) or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum using traditional and innovative modes of delivery. Experience teaching human medical embryology and histology is highly desired and experience teaching human anatomy with cadaver dissection is preferred. Duties include participation in curriculum development and implementation, serving as an academic advisor, membership and participation on SOM and University committees, participation in the admission process of SOM students, and establishing and maintaining scholarly activity and participating in campus and community service activities. The position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Anatomy and to the Assistant Dean for Biomedical Affairs through the Chair of the Department of Anatomy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Commitment as assigned in team teaching anatomy and other topics relative to expertise (and related responsibilities) to Osteopathic medical students. Commitment as assigned in team teaching anatomy and other topics relative to expertise (and related responsibilities) in the Physician Assistant (PA) or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) curriculum. Works in cooperation with the Department Chair, Curriculum Committee, Block Leaders, Course Directors and other SOM faculty to develop the curriculum and syllabi for students of CUSOM, schedule courses, assign teaching, develop exam questions and other assessment tools, evaluate assessment outcomes, and implement a continuous quality assessment and improvement system for the anatomy curriculum. Serves as an academic advisor to assigned CUSOM students. Serves on and participates in CUSOM and University committees as assigned. Participates in the Admissions process of CUSOM students. Serves as a liaison between the students and CUSOM administration. Evaluates need-based items for successful anatomy curriculum delivery pertaining to audio-visual aids, teaching materials and aids, faculty development materials and faculty travel, and any other related resources and provides input to the Department Chair for the annual budget for the Department of Anatomy. Develops and coordinates programs and resources to assist and promote faculty growth, development, and accomplishments in the fields of education, research, and professional and clinical service. Develops and maintains scholarly efforts. Assures the advancement and integration of high standards for ethical and professional behavior in all aspects of the education of the students of CUSOM and actions of the administration, faculty, and staff. Assures integration of osteopathic principles in pre- and post-doctoral education programs. Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Demonstrates an active and consistent commitment to the missions of both CUSOM and Campbell University. Education/Experience An earned PhD or equivalent graduate degree in anatomy or similar discipline from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated success or show strong potential in teaching medical embryology and histology, as well as human gross anatomy with cadaver dissection. Post-doctoral research experience in the field of anatomical sciences and demonstrated ability to publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals is also preferred. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak comfortably before large groups. Ability to listen and communicate in a positive manner. Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people. Ability to work as a group leader and group member, team player. Ability to effectively collaborate and interact with biomedical and health care professionals. Ability to organize, direct, prioritize, and delegate work appropriately. Excellent analytical skills necessary for preparing financial, legal, and administrative documents. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to prepare grant proposals and academic evaluative reports. Proficient in basic computing skills, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, digital methods of communication and education. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills while working in stressful conditions. Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in interacting with faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials, and the public. Exercise good judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations. Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in stressful situations. Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines. Possess the characteristics of adaptability, flexibility, and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
