Department 11598 Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital - Patient Transport Status Full time Benefits Eligible Yes Hours Per Week 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information First and Second shift - Between 9a-5 and 2-10:30p, with rotating weekends. Pay Range $20.80 - $31.20 Major Responsibilities Plans, directs, and controls the work of transporters and dispatchers to ensure the safe, courteous, timely processing of all requests for movement of patients and non-patient items on any shift as assigned. 1)Monitors equipment used by the Central Transportation Department to include proper functioning and safety, cleanliness, and employee usage. Completes and updates equipment inventories as required in ISISpro. 2)Accurately tracks the use of phones and other communication devices by service workers. 3)Participates in hospital committees and patient care teams to improve quality, satisfaction, and safety. 4)Seeks advanced training and is self-motivated. Sets an example for everyone in the department for commitment, dedication, and positive input. Is easily adaptable to change. 5)Works as team player in the Central Transportation Department and within the facility. 6)Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet the need of the facility. 7)Complies with dress code and uniform standards for department.Wears identification issued by the hospital while on duty. Correctly uses computerized time system or other time monitoring systems. Performs all other related duties as instructed by the transport Manager. 8) Maintains compliance with Advocate Health Care Healthcare’s standards of operation, the client’s standards of operation, and Advocate Health Care’s Business Conduct Policy. Maintains all records and reports necessary to comply with regulations and codes. Assists Director with operational duties, performance improvement and/or process design activities. Provides one-on-one direction to transportation in regards to daily assignments or performance improvement. Compiles daily and monthly statistics regarding patient transportation, statistics, and oxygen tank violations. Notifies manager of any disciplinary problems involving transportation associates. Acts as troubleshooter to alleviate problems with disgruntled physicians, patients, nurses, etc. to assure quality and flow of department. Serves as coordinator for Service Breakthrough team to ensure departmental efficiency and accuracy. Assist manager with managing departmental scheduling including vacation requests. Contributes to the health and well being of transportation by fostering a supportive, harmonious, and efficient work environment. Interviews potential associates, trains new staff, continued training/education of existing staff, monitors staff utilizing direct and indirect methods (i.e., statistical reports). Assists ensures staff members are trained on good public relations, professionalism, telephone etiquette, and Advocate’s Service First policy. 2)Assists in policy and procedure development and the budget and capital planning process for the Central Transportation Department. 3)Answers all incoming calls, enters data, dispatches/assigns requests, completes requests. 4)Receives incoming calls by the third ring. Answers courteously using good customer service skills. Enters information into appropriate system. Organizes calls and dispatches in a timely manner. 5)Assists in policy and procedure development and the budget and capital planning process for the Central Transportation Department. 6)Initiates and processes data for Central Transportation Department. 7)Accurately dispatches calls to correct area. Prioritizes dispatches. 8)Calls customers to ensure that their expectations were met. Performs a wide variety of clerical, typing assignments and prepares various reports. 9)Consistently completes all typing assignments efficiently and accurately; final work product is letter perfect and in an attractive and easy to read format. Compose and edit material as directed; proofreads all material prior to distribution. Uses proper English, grammar, punctuation and composition. Uses good judgment and analytical ability in preparing documents and reports. File and maintain records. Complete copying and faxing. Complete Human Resource related assignments, payroll, attendance, personnel files, tracking records, and incident reports.Utilizes Advocate, hospital systems such as purchasing, office supply orders, etc. Distributes communication devices.Keeps work area neat and clean. 10)Perform safety checks on transport stage area weekly and monthly. Utilizes great customer service skills and works well as part of a team. 1)Develops and maintains systems for organizing work and information. Actively explores ways to improve quality of input and output of work. Performs Business Associate duties and functions. 8)Participates in hospital Emergency Preparedness Committee, and other committees as assigned. 1)Transports specimens, commodities and patient care equipment to and from assigned areas. Return oxygen tank cylinders to proper location 2)Coordinates transportation duties including decontamination, setup and preventative maintenance of patient care equipment 3)Completes computer entry/documentation for all service requests via “Dispatch” computer system. 4)Dispatches and transports patients. 5)Participates in mandatory in-services and education programs appropriate to the goals and needs of the department. 6)Attends in-service programs on equipment use and operation. 7)Maintains CPR certification status, and ensures the current status of all associates. 9)Promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives. Education/Experience Required: high school diploma or GED and 2-3 year related heatlhcare experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Ability to communicate fluently in the English language. Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively. Ability to correctly use all communication devices within the transportation department. Ability to apply elementary math functions. Ability to work well under time constraints and meet all deadlines. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to maintain a professional working relationship with facility staff, co-workers, subordinates, and supervisor. Ability to learn the use of basic computer hardware and related software functions. CPR certification required within 90 days of date of hire. Occasionally lifts, carries, pushes and/or pulls equipment, materials and supplies weighing 50lbs or less. The potential for eyestrain exists with long-term exposure to computer monitor. Must have adequate or corrected vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate via phone, radio, and face to face. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
