Job Description

The General Utility position serves as an entry-level production role within our dynamic team. This role encompasses a variety of duties within the production area, focusing on general labor tasks. Employees will contribute to production operations by adhering to policies and procedures for meat processing, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain all production areas in clean and sanitary conditions.
• Communicate any issues that lead to unsanitary conditions promptly.
• Remove product and packing materials from the floor.
• Properly dispose of and track inedible products.
• Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas.
• Stage production area with empty containers for the following shift.
• Assist with preparing and disassembling equipment for meat-processing operations or sanitation.
• Assist with the collection, opening, and reuse of rework, ensuring proper product identification to prevent cross-contamination.
• Relieve co-workers for breaks and assist in other positions as needed.
• Accurately complete any assigned paperwork.
• Assist in training new employees accurately.
• Check with area supervisors for additional tasks before leaving at the end of the shift.
• Visually inspect cases to ensure they are labeled and have a clear, legible code date.
• Make necessary machinery adjustments for smooth production, including changing tape, code dates, ink, paper, film, cardboard, or pallets.
• Operate a manual hand jack as needed.
• Communicate all equipment malfunctions promptly.
• Prepare supplies and workstations for the next shift.
• Stage ingredients in 50 lb containers to maintain product flow.
• Arrange meat according to instructions and specifications.
• Continuously comb, hang, transport, and stack products.
• Inspect products on a conveyor belt for quality specifications.
• Perform job duties accurately and efficiently.

Essential Skills

• Experience in production or general labor.
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift.

• Ability to follow directions and work under minimal supervision.
• Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment safely.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in food manufacturing, food production, or cold storage is advantageous.
• Experience with manual hand jacks and machinery adjustments is preferred.

Work Environment

This job operates in a manufacturing environment where you will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and varying temperature areas, both cold and warm. The noise level is usually high. Physical demands include constant standing, walking, and lifting or carrying a minimum of 50 lbs. Use of both hands is necessary, and reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Davenport, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
