Systems Administrator

Purpose Of The Classification Responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and reliability of the City’s server, storage, virtualization, identity management, and core technology infrastructure while providing advanced technical support and ensuring the availability of critical business systems. Administer and maintain Windows Server operating systems and related infrastructure. Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and user authentication services. Administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) Monitor server health, storage utilization, system performance, and infrastructure availability. Perform routine server maintenance, updates, firmware upgrades, and security patching. Develop, maintain, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery procedures. Monitor and respond to cybersecurity threats, system alerts, and security incidents. Implement and maintain endpoint security, antivirus, and vulnerability management solutions. Administer virtualization infrastructure including VMware and virtual machine lifecycle management. Maintain storage systems, SAN/NAS devices, and backup appliances. Manage server certificates, SSL certificates, and encryption technologies. Maintain system documentation, network diagrams, configuration standards, and disaster recovery documentation. Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies and infrastructure improvements. Participate in IT project planning, implementation, and technology deployments. Perform root cause analysis for recurring infrastructure and systems issues. Maintain software licensing and server inventory records. Coordinate with software and hardware vendors for technical support and warranty issues. Participate in after-hours maintenance windows and emergency response for critical systems. Provide Tier II technical support and serve as an escalation point for Desktop Support staff. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for server and infrastructure administration.
