Senior Application Engineer (hybrid)

Senior Application Engineer – Data Center Chiller Solutions Johnson Controls offers a unique opportunity for a Senior Application Engineer to support the sale of Chiller products through the JCI HVAC System Branches and partners in export markets. The role directly supports field sales, provides pre‑sale technical support, manages system‑level product application inquiries, generates special quotations, and collaborates with order management and contract engineering teams. The position is a hybrid based in San Antonio, TX, or New Freedom, PA with relocation packages available. Responsibilities Daily interaction with field sales personnel providing guidance on the application and installation of assigned Chiller Solutions equipment in HVAC systems. Interaction with field personnel includes systems applications advice, creative solutions to unique customer needs, and use of competitor knowledge to create advantages. Participate in the development of tools and documentation to support field sales and automate processes for common inquiries. Proficient use of in‑house engineering systems and documentation to aid in responding to inquiries for product details. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions for enhancing the reliability, scalability, and sustainability of chiller systems in data center applications. Design and customize chiller systems tailored to data center environments, ensuring optimal cooling efficiency and energy utilization. Assist and counsel sales personnel in resolving equipment, job, or code challenges. Effectively communicate and follow up with sales personnel, design engineers, and product management teams to ensure customer requirements are clearly understood and responses are efficiently executed. Obtain supplier quotations to communicate cost and lead time for special product requests. Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of products (JCI and competitors), market conditions and direction, external influences of industry organizations and governmental regulations, technologies, and their effect on the business. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. 3+ years of experience preferably in the HVAC industry or a related Chiller Technology field. Knowledge of the principles of refrigeration systems and associated equipment. Up to 15% travel required for factory visits, customer site visits, and field visits related to training. Compensation & Benefits Salary range $90,000 – $120,000, subject to experience, education, and market alignment. The role includes a competitive bonus plan and benefits package.
