Visiting Guest Lecturer in Acting/Voice College/School/Unit: College of Fine Arts Department: Department of Theatre & Dance Posted: May 8, 2026 Apply By: Open until filled Description The Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Texas atAustin invites applications for a Visiting Guest Lecturer in Actingwith the ability to deliver curriculum related to vocal trainingfor the actor, accents, and dialects. The successful candidate willhave an ability to teach multiple levels of voice for the actor,accents and dialects, scene-study at multiple levels, andShakespeare/heightened language. The department encouragesbalancing professional rigor with human-centered, consent-basedpractices that prioritize the vocal health of the developingactor. The successful candidate will serve as faculty in the Acting Area,which includes BA Theatre and Dance and BFA Acting degrees. TheActing Area's priority is to cultivate well-rounded artist citizenswith a broad range of skills who are able to compete in andcontribute to the shifting landscape of the performing arts andentertainment fields with agency and innovation. The facultyencourage students to develop concrete skills in acting with rootsin theatre while simultaneously emphasizing the application ofthose skills to a variety of contexts and disciplines. The ActingArea supports and is supported by programs in Dance, Directing andPlaywrighting, Drama and Theatre for Youth and Community/TheatreEducation, Live Design and Production, and Performance as PublicPractice. This position requires relocation to Austin, TX. As an integral part of the thriving creative culture of Austin,Texas, the Department of Theatre and Dance offers an array ofprograms to prepare artists, scholars, and teachers to makeprofound contributions to theatre and dance through engaging study,interdisciplinary collaboration, and exceptional performanceexperiences. The department has 35 full-time faculty members and 18full-time staff members and is housed in well-equipped facilities,which include black box, proscenium, and lab theatres; teaching andpractice spaces; and state-of-the-art design and computing labs.The department produces six large scale and numerous smallproductions per year, including the largest student-driven biennialNew Works Festival in the country. Start Date: August 2026 This is a one-year, fixed term appointment. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Terminal degree in acting or a related field. Demonstrated ability to teach multiple levels of voice for theactor and accents/dialects courses. Significant training in one or more of the following vocalmethods: Linklater, Rodenburg, Berry, Knight-Thompson. Preferred Qualifications: History of working in the field of acting. Demonstrated ability to proactively engage students in emergingprofessional development and employment strategies related toacting. Administrative experience sufficient to maximize opportunitiesfor engagement with our learning communities and theprofession. Demonstrated interest and/or experience in human-centered,consent-based practices in acting training. Knowledge and experience with African-American, Latinx, and/orIndigenous theatrical repertories and traditions. An expansive history of work in the fields of live performancesufficient to engage productively with colleagues in content areasof the department other than acting.
