Starting Date: Immediately Job Description PRIMARY PURPOSE: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification High School Diploma or GED, preferred Texas Driver’s license Class C, required Clear driving record, required Special Knowledge/Skills Must be able to read blueprints Must be familiar with residential and commercial construction Must possess painting skills Experience Three (3) years, experience in carpentry, required Masonry and/or roofing experience, preferred Workdays: 242 Auxiliary Pay Structure: Pay Grade7 Pay Date: Monthly Hourly Pay Range Minimum: $18.70 Midpoint: $22.26 Maximum: $25.82 Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job‑related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience. Major Responsibilities and Duties (Essential Functions) Construct and repair structural woodwork such as counters, cabinets, partitions, floors, doors and framework. Work from blueprints, drawings and oral instruction as appropriate. Use all carpentry and power tools in a safe manner. Install glass in windows, doors and partitions. Install and replace ceiling, floor and ceramic tile. Build cabinets and other wooden items in carpentry shop, using woodworking machines such as power saws, shaper and joiner. Assist in estimating cost of repair projects in terms of material. Comply with safety and hazardous laws and regulations in the performance of the job. Assist in maintaining inventory control of tools and supplies. Attend meetings as required or directed by supervisors. Paint and spray‑paint hollow metal doors with an air gun. Spray acoustic indoor and outdoor ceiling and walls with a Monterrey finish. Install brick and block in construction jobs. Tape and float sheetrock. Install suspended ceiling grits, wall angles and ceiling tile. Install and remove carpet and vinyl floor tile. Respond to after‑hour emergency calls in the evenings and/or weekends. Work outside of regular assigned work schedule to repair and/or replace needed facilities including night and/or weekend duty as requested. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator). Supervisory Responsibilities None Equipment Used Shop equipment and tools Ladder, scaffold, small hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, sockets, pliers, crimpers, wire cutters, etc.), hand saws, power tools (saw, drill, sander, etc.), torque wrench, drill press, grinder, air impact tools, jacks, lift equipment, air sprayer (paint). Vehicles and related equipment Light van, seat belts, shoulder harnesses, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher, radio communication equipment. Working Conditions Mental Demands Ability to concentrate, communicate effectively (verbal and written), interpret, reason, read, compute, instruct and maintain emotional control under stress; ability to handle several projects at the same time with frequent interruptions.
