ASL Interpreter & Language Assistance Coordinator

Location City/State: Nyack, New York Department Patient Satisfaction Work Shift Day work days: MON-FRI, rotating schedule Scheduled Hours: 8 AM-4:30 PM Scheduled Daily Hours: 8 hours Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Compensation Hourly rate starting at $32.00. Rate may change based on shift differential, experience, education or other relevant factors. Job Summary This certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for the hearing impaired is responsible for assisting patients, families and companions with limited English proficiency interpreting when they are communicating with the Physician, nurses or any other healthcare provider. Assists in overseeing the Language Assistance Program, including interpretation and translation device management, staff education and ensuring patients and families with varying preferred languages are satisfied with the care and communication being provided. Responsibilities Interprets spoken language for patients, families and companions. Acts as a liaison between patient/family/companions and the organization by interpreting, explaining and navigating the organization’s policies and procedures. Participates in departmental QI process as it relates to the provision of interpreter services, special needs and customer satisfaction. Assists with Propio device management. Rounds on all patients with a preferred language other than English. Audits charts for Propio compliance and provides staff education. Performs additional duties as related and assigned by Director of Patient Experience. Qualifications High School required; Bachelor Degree preferred. 1-3 years of work experience as an ASL Interpreter preferred. American Sign Language (ASL) certification required.
