Systems Engineer

Salary: $73,000 - 113,000 per year Requirements:

• We need hands-on experience with embedded firmware development in C/C++ and RTOS environments, and/or electronic hardware design.
• We need proven experience with hardware-firmware co-design, PCB bring-up, and debugging at the hardware-software boundary.
• We need experience working with embedded firmware and/or software development processes; direct coding is not essential, but fluency in communicating with software teams is.
• We require a bachelors or masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
• We need at least 3–4 years of experience as an engineering individual contributor in an industrial setting; 1–2 years of systems engineering experience is preferred.
• We need demonstrated experience writing system specifications, software requirements, or theories of operation in a hardware/software product development environment.
• SysML/UML modeling experience is preferred.
• We need the ability to turn ambiguous customer or stakeholder input into structured, actionable requirements.
• We need experience across the full systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements definition through design, integration, verification, and validation.
• We require proficiency with Jira and Ease Requirements for requirements management and agile tracking.
• Experience with quality tools such as FMEA and 5 Whys is needed.
• Knowledge of marking and coding equipment, particularly drop-on-demand inkjet technology, is highly desirable.
• We need excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• We need the ability to map out solutions for complex problems, communicate that direction, and help the team execute.

• We act as the key link between customer needs and engineering delivery, turning primarily software-related requests into clear system and software requirements.
• We write and maintain functional specifications, software requirement specifications, and theories of operation for DoD printer systems and subsystems.
• We collaborate closely with software engineering to keep requirements precise, unambiguous, and implementable, and we support clarification throughout development.
• We lead requirements reviews with cross-functional partners in software, firmware, electrical, and mechanical disciplines to confirm completeness and consistency.
• We define and maintain system architecture documentation, including hardware-firmware-software interface definitions and behavioral descriptions.
• We convert product marketing input and customer use cases into structured requirements using established systems engineering methods.
• We support verification and validation by creating acceptance criteria and traceability matrices tied to system requirements.
• We manage the requirements lifecycle in Jira and Ease Requirements, maintaining traceability from customer need through design, implementation, and test.
• We stay current on embedded systems, software architecture, and inkjet/DoD printing technology trends.
