Overview Outpatient Clinical Nutrition Coordinator - Mount Sinai Hospital The Clinical Nutrition Coordinator provides quality nutrition care and education to patients and family members, under the direction of the Director of Clinical Nutrition. The Coordinator coordinates departmental initiatives and education programs. They maintain clinical expertise for the assigned area and recommend appropriate nutrition therapy based on patients’ nutritional needs. They act as a resource to all clinical staff and provide feedback for professional development. They adhere to applicable regulatory guidelines and to department and hospital philosophies, standards, objectives, policies and procedures. Responsibilities Evaluate the nutritional status of patients by reviewing information from the electronic medical record and the interdisciplinary health care team. Apply nutrition screening and assessment to determine patient nutritional needs. Document pertinent findings in the medical record as per policy. Provide quality nutrition counseling to specific patient populations and family members as indicated. Coordinate projects within the department, including nutrition-related in-services, interdepartmental nutrition education programs, and lectures. Design, develop and regularly update nutrition education materials to meet the specialized needs of specific patient populations. Participate in quality assurance monitoring and reporting for departmental performance improvement meetings. Precept dietetic interns, develop learning modules, instruct them on competencies required to complete their rotations, and complete student evaluations. Evaluate nutrition care plans for effectiveness and recommend changes as needed. Use professional judgment to adapt and apply guidelines, protocols and professional standards of care to changing patient needs. Participate in program-related research to enhance services where appropriate. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds as needed. Communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team. Act as a resource to hospital staff and provide guidance regarding nutrition needs for specific patient populations. Assist with discharge planning and home care as needed. Participate in community-focused education programs and external speaking events to promote service and education. Present department journal clubs. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; Master’s degree preferred. 3–5 years experience. Registered Dietitian (RD) from the Commission on Dietetic Registration required. Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) from NYS Department of Education Office of the Professions, preferred but not required. Advanced credentials such as the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), or pediatric, renal, or oncology specialties preferred but not required. Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $65,885 – $95,336.71 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need.
