Nurse Practitioner-Outpatient Oncology - Mount Sinai Hospital-Full Time - Day

Job Title – Nurse Practitioner – Outpatient Oncology – Mount Sinai Hospital – Full Time – Day A nurse practitioner (NP) is an RN who has earned a separate certification as an NP under Title VIII, Article 139 section 6910 of the New York Education Law. NPs are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for conditions that fall within their specialty area of practice. NOTE: Medical orders, progress notes, and treatment plans are not required to be countersigned by a physician. Responsibilities Clinical Practice Assess patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination. Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, obtain lab results, prescribe medication regimens, interpret findings, and adjust plans of care according to accepted standards and guidelines. Educate and counsel in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Document findings and plans of care in the patient’s medical record. Consult with physicians as per established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care. Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care. Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. Maintain patient and employee confidentiality. Develop and monitor plans of care, record responses, and perform timely record reviews with the collaborating physician (minimum every three months). Complete required FPPE or OPPE evaluations as mandated by Medical Staff. Practice as a member of the allied health staff in accordance with Medical Staff rules and hospital bylaws. Treat co‑workers, patients, and families with dignity and respect. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Perform history taking and physical assessment techniques. Document competency in specialty‑specific procedures per established standards. Interpret and apply principles of nursing research utilization. Manage and coordinate a patient caseload. Work within a Collaborative Practice Agreement or Relationship Attestation. Possess physical stamina and manual dexterity required for tasks in the specialty area. Exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, problem‑solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Education and Credentials Licensed in New York with current RN registration. Certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education or a national association. Graduate of a New York State NP program or equivalent, or successful completion of a post‑master NP certificate. Completed required pharmacy component and course on prescriptions and recordkeeping. Collaborative Practice Agreement (or Relationship) with a physician; additional protocols if less than 3,600 practice hours. DEA certificate, Basic Life Support (BLS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications as dictated by specialty. National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required for all NPs hired effective June 1 2019; may be deferred up to one year with approval. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and hospital need.
