Job Summary The Nevada Department of Transportation is hiring for an Engineering Technician 3 located in Carson City, within the Pavement Analysis section of the Materials Division. Technicians in this position will be responsible for performing field testing operations statewide utilizing specialized pavement testing equipment. Duties include collection of pavement condition data, equipment calibration, mechanical inventory, data processing, record management, research of construction plans, change orders, special provisions for historical construction history database entry, and other related tasks. This is an on‑site position and does not offer remote work options. Essential Qualifications Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, physics, math or closely related field and one year of specialized engineering experience. High school diploma or equivalent and two years of the above experience. One year of experience as an Engineering Technician II in Nevada State service. Equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Job Duties Assist engineers in performing field and laboratory tests, setting up equipment, gathering and compiling data, analyzing technical problems, conducting research and analysis. Provide assistance on water rights ownership, bid documents, contract plans, right‑of‑way plans, acquisition and disposal documentation, contract specifications, test results, and federal and state guidelines. Perform technical research to ensure program compliance, review technical documents, analyze and interpret data, verify noncompliance, and recommend corrective actions. Maintain records and contract documents, enter data into computer systems, review applications and technical reports for completeness and compliance. Perform field inspections of construction projects, wells, water use, materials, equipment, property lines and boundaries, right‑of‑way mapping, safety barriers, and record data. Prepare drafting assignments such as maps, charts, graphs, tables, slopes, contours for construction projects and water rights data. Conduct surveying work including staking alignments, structures, fence lines, cross sections, vertical and horizontal measurements, and topographical mapping. Perform material and soil testing: acceptance testing, design mix, proficiency and advanced testing, research material properties and new specifications. Maintain and calibrate equipment, manage inventory, document calibration, repairs, and recommend replacements. Research public records to determine property ownership, boundaries, encumbrances, and title condition. Perform calculations for survey and property boundaries, alignments, traverses, construction limits, and material quantities. Execute other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of engineering maps and records, surveying principles and practices, engineering drafting methods, conventional symbols and information sources, construction and inspection methods, testing and sampling procedures. Ability to operate civil engineering software, conduct tests and inspections, perform certified testing procedures, read and comprehend legal and technical documents, organize material systematically, determine and use mathematical procedures, work independently with minimal supervision, research technical information from public records and online resources, maintain and calibrate equipment and instruments.
