Job Description: Our client is a growing, fully remote accounting firm looking for a Senior Tax Accountant to serve as a trusted advisor to small business clients while helping lead and mentor our tax team. You'll balance technical tax work with client relationship management and team development. This role is a strong fit for someone who wants to deepen their expertise while helping grow the next generation of accountants.
Responsibilities
- Serve as primary tax advisor for a portfolio of small business clients, meeting regularly to discuss financial performance, projections, and planning opportunities
- Advise clients on entity structure, retirement planning, estimated taxes, accountable plans, and other tax-saving strategies
- Prepare and review individual and business tax returns, projections, and supporting financial documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Conduct tax research, monitor tax law changes, and resolve complex tax notices or authority correspondence
- Serve as a technical resource for tax questions across the firm
- Mentor Tax Accountants and Senior Staff Accountants; review work, provide feedback, and support onboarding and training
- Help improve tax department processes, workflows, and adoption of new technology (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks Online, Gusto, Hubdoc, Shopify, Stripe, Square, Zapier)
- CPA or EA license
- 7+ years of accounting and tax experience, including closely held businesses and pass-through entities
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns and projections
- Strong understanding of small business taxation and financial statements
- Experience managing client relationships and mentoring or reviewing others' work
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt to new software tools
- Experience with Xero or ProConnect
- Experience with e-commerce or multi-state tax clients
- Experience working in a remote accounting firm
- Fully remote work with a flexible schedule and PTO (including Summer Fridays outside tax season)
