Counsel, Business & Technology (New York)

The Major League Baseball Business & Technology Legal team oversees the legal aspects of a wide range of Major League Baseball’s domestic and international commercial activities, including licensing, products, national events (such as the World Series and the All-Star Game), marketing, advertising, sponsorship, ticketing, video and mobile games and gaming, technology infrastructure, software licensing, consumer protection, data privacy, and information security. Responsibilities Negotiate and structure commercial agreements based on the needs of MLB’s business and operational units (e.g. information security, technology, product, business development, events, ticketing, e-commerce, content, social media, marketing, advertising and sponsorship, licensing human resources, public relations and finance)Communicate regularly with Major League Baseball’s clubs regarding league agreements related to business operations and technologyProvide general in-house legal services to and advise MLB’s business and operational unitsProvide oversight, strategy and direction to outside counselQualifications & SkillsMember of New York State Bar in good standingTop academic credentials and referencesMinimum of four (4) years as a practicing lawyer, preferably with at least several years’ experience in a well-regarded law firmSignificant transactional experience negotiating and structuring major licensing and other commercial agreements. Experience with technology, information security and/or consumer data privacy strongly preferredExcellent communication skills; strong ability to build and maintain relationshipsMust work effectively in a fast-paced environment, interacting regularly with senior managementMust be able to simultaneously accomplish multiple quantitatively and qualitatively challenging tasksSalary Range: $180,000 - $200,000 (Base Salary) + BonusAs a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
