Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a difference in the lives of students as a Special Education Teacher in a supportive elementary school setting. This contract opportunity runs from August 17 to May 26, 2027, in a self-contained classroom for students with autism. Work closely with a team of dedicated paraprofessionals and related service providers to create meaningful educational experiences.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois LBS1 endorsement and Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Previous experience teaching students with special needs, preferably in self-contained classrooms
- Understanding of best practices for supporting students on the autism spectrum
- Strong collaboration skills to work alongside paraprofessionals and related service staff
- Ability to develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies
- Flexibility, empathy, and effective communication skills
Responsibilities:
- Lead a self-contained classroom for elementary-aged students (K-5) with autism
- Design individualized instruction, tailored supports, and data-driven IEPs
- Collaborate daily with three classroom paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Maintain regular and positive communication with families and school staff
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and school events as needed
- Monitor student progress and adjust strategies for optimal learning outcomes
- Ensure compliance with all required documentation and district policies
Position Details:
- Contract role, full-time (35 hours per week; 8:45 am – 4:05 pm, 30-minute unpaid lunch)
- Assignment at one elementary school location
- Panel/casual interview format
- School-based onboarding and fingerprinting prior to start date may be required
