Job Summary

The Production Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring production equipment and machinery to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This position involves operating production machinery, performing welding tasks, handling materials, loading and unloading steel coils, inspecting finished products, and conducting quality control checks. The Production Operator is also responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment while meeting daily production goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Follow production schedules and work orders to meet daily production objectives.
• Perform MIG and Stick welding to join metal components according to production specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.
• Operate, monitor, and adjust production equipment, tools, and machinery to ensure efficient operations.
• Operate overhead cranes to safely lift, move, position, load, and unload steel coils and other heavy materials.
• Inspect materials and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
• Identify minor equipment malfunctions and report major mechanical issues to maintenance personnel.
• Record production data, including output quantities, quality control results, and equipment performance.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and equipment inspections as assigned.
• Assist with equipment setup and changeovers between production runs.
• Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, when trained and authorized.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and established safety procedures.
• Properly wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all assigned tasks.
• Collaborate with team members to maintain production efficiency and meet operational goals.
• Assist in training new operators on machinery operation, material handling, and safety procedures.
• Communicate production updates, equipment issues, and safety concerns to supervisors and coworkers.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on operational needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• 1–3 years of MIG and Stick welding experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
• Experience operating overhead cranes in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience safely loading, unloading, lifting, and positioning steel coils or other heavy materials preferred.
• Knowledge of proper rigging techniques, load capacities, and overhead crane safety procedures.
• Familiarity with manufacturing machinery, production equipment, and industrial tools.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and production instructions.
• Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment preferred.
• Basic understanding of equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify production or equipment issues.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and weekends as required by production needs.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
