Job Title: CNC Multi-Axis Machinist Job Description

This role involves setting up and operating a variety of CNC multi-axis machines to produce large, complex aerospace components with precision and consistency. You will work with advanced milling and turning equipment, independently select tooling, and ensure all parts meet strict aerospace quality standards using precision inspection tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC multi-axis machines, including Vertical, Gantry, and Horizontal rotary (4th axis) mills, CNC lathes and routers, and 5-axis core mills.

• Perform complex machine setups that typically range from 3 to 6 hours, ensuring all tooling, fixtures, and programs are correctly prepared and verified.

• Independently select and install the proper tools, tooling systems, and work-holding devices for the setup and operation of multi-axis CNC equipment and various manual or automatic machines.

• Operate CNC milling machines and CNC mills to machine large aerospace structural parts to tight tolerances.

• Use Fanuc controls to load, adjust, and run CNC programs, making offsets and minor edits as needed to achieve required dimensions and surface finishes.

• Work with 3-axis and 4-axis machining configurations, as well as multi-axis operations, to produce complex geometries.

• Perform grinding operations as needed to meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.

• Use micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.

• Inspect machined parts throughout the process, identify nonconformances, and make appropriate adjustments to machines or tooling to correct issues.

• Work with machinist tool and die equipment as needed to support production and maintain tooling.

• Handle and machine large aerospace parts safely, ensuring proper setup, support, and alignment during all machining operations.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following standard work practices and shop safety procedures.

• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve machining issues and improve processes.

• Document work as required, including setup notes, inspection results, and machine adjustments, to support repeatable and consistent production.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC multi-axis machines, including Vertical, Gantry, Horizontal rotary (4th axis) mills, CNC lathes/routers, and 5-axis core mills.

• Proficiency with CNC milling machines and CNC mills in a production environment.

• Ability to independently select proper tools and tooling for the setup and operation of multi-axis CNC equipment and a variety of manual or automatic machines.

• Experience working with large aerospace parts and structural components.

• Working knowledge of Fanuc controls, including loading programs, setting offsets, and making adjustments during production.

• Experience with 3-axis and 4-axis machining operations.

• Skill using micrometers, gauges, and other precision inspection tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.

• Familiarity with grinding operations related to machining and finishing metal components.

• Background in machinist tool and die work or similar precision machining disciplines.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications (implied by aerospace machining and inspection requirements).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in an aerospace production and machine shop environment.

• Experience machining fuselage sections, wing components, or similar large aerostructure parts.

• Comfort working with structural parts and advanced electronics-related components for aerospace and defense applications.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for resolving machining and setup challenges.

• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components.

• Ability to work overtime, including extended shifts and Saturdays, when production demands require.

Work Environment

The facility operates as an aerospace production and machine shop environment focused on manufacturing structural parts and advanced electronics for leading aerospace and defense Original Equipment Manufacturers. The location specializes in aerostructure work on fuselage sections and wings for major commercial aircraft platforms such as the Airbus A220/A320 and Boeing 737/787. You will work around CNC multi-axis mills, lathes, routers, 5-axis core mills, grinding equipment, and precision inspection tools in a high-precision, process-driven setting. The typical schedule offers long shifts, such as 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with regular Saturday work and overtime opportunities based on production needs. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to aerospace quality standards while working on large, complex parts.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gardena, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
