Accounting Manager

A privately held entertainment products manufacturer is seeking a hands‑on Accounting Manager to help lead the day to day accounting function and build toward broader ownership of the organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will play a central role in the close, financial reporting, audit readiness, internal controls, inventory, product costing, and accounting operations. This position is intentionally designed as a fast track opportunity to Controller. It is ideal for an experienced Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller in industry, or an Audit Manager or Audit Senior Manager from a leading public accounting firm who is ready to move into an operating leadership role. Advancement will be based on performance, leadership growth, business needs, and demonstrated readiness to assume broader responsibility. Each product combines thousands of parts, specialized labor, electronics, software, and global supply chain activity. You will learn the business from both the general ledger and the factory floor, translating that complexity into accurate reporting, stronger controls, and better operating decisions. What you will own Close and financial reporting. Lead key elements of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, reconciliations, analytical review, issue resolution, and management reporting. Help ensure financial statements are timely, accurate, well supported, and compliant with US GAAP and company policy. General accounting operations. Oversee core general ledger activities and supporting schedules for cash, working capital, fixed assets, leases, debt, and other significant accounts. Provide hands on leadership across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and related accounting workflows. Audit and controls. Coordinate the external audit, prepare and review PBC schedules, respond to audit inquiries, and drive timely resolution of findings. Document, test, and improve internal controls that protect company assets and improve financial accuracy. Manufacturing accounting and product costing. Partner with the CFO and operational leaders to strengthen inventory accounting, FIFO costing, cost of goods sold, labor and overhead allocation, landed costs, and production variance analysis. Candidates coming from public accounting are expected to bring strong audit and controls fundamentals and develop deeper manufacturing accounting expertise on the job. Inventory accuracy and risk. Support accounting for raw materials, work in process, and finished goods, including cycle counts, annual physical inventory, reconciliations, adjustments, reserves, and root cause follow through. Technical accounting and compliance. Research and document accounting conclusions, support tax and regulatory compliance, and coordinate with external specialists on income, sales and use, and other tax matters. Planning and working capital. Partner with the CFO and FP&A resources on budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and analysis of actual results versus plan. Identify practical opportunities to improve receivables, payables, inventory, margin, and working capital. Systems and process improvement. Strengthen ERP governance, accounting data integrity, close processes, and reporting. Use automation, dashboards, workflow improvements, and practical AI tools in accordance with company policy to reduce manual work and improve decision quality. Team leadership and partnership. Coach and develop accounting team members, improve cross training and backup coverage, and partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Sales, HR, and executive leadership. How success will be measured Monthly and annual reporting is accurate, timely, well supported, and clearly explained. The external audit is organized, responsive, and completed with fewer late surprises. Controls and accounting processes become more consistent, scalable, and well documented. Inventory balances and product costs increasingly reflect the operational reality of the factory. The accounting team is accountable, capable, cross trained, and continually improving. You demonstrate the technical judgment, leadership, and business partnership required to progress toward the Controller role. Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. Seven or more years of progressive accounting or audit experience. Current or prior public accounting experience with a Big Four firm, RSM, Grant Thornton, BDO, Crowe, or a comparable public accounting firm. Current or recent experience as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Audit Manager, Audit Senior Manager, or a comparable role with meaningful ownership of close, reporting, audit, or controls. Strong command of US GAAP and the ability to research, evaluate, and document accounting conclusions. Experience leading or coordinating external audits and preparing or reviewing complex audit support schedules. Advanced Excel skills and strong experience with ERP or financial reporting systems. Public accounting candidates We are particularly interested in Audit Managers and Audit Senior Managers from the Big Four, RSM, Grant Thornton, BDO, Crowe, and other respected public accounting firms. The strongest candidates will have managed complex audits, supervised teams, evaluated internal controls, communicated with senior client leaders, and worked with manufacturing, consumer products, industrial, distribution, or other inventory intensive businesses. This is an opportunity to move beyond advising clients and take direct ownership of accounting operations, team development, process improvement, and business decisions inside a complex manufacturer. Preferred qualifications Manufacturing, consumer products, industrial, distribution, or other inventory intensive industry experience. Experience with a manufacturing focused ERP platform. Exposure to inventory valuation, FIFO costing, cost of goods sold, standard or actual costing, and manufacturing variances. Experience with sales and use tax platforms, reporting automation, business intelligence, or finance transformation. A genuine interest in gaming, entertainment products, consumer products, or leading finance inside a complex manufacturing company. Fast track to Controller The successful candidate will work closely with the CFO and receive increasing responsibility across close leadership, financial reporting, audit, controls, manufacturing accounting, planning, systems, and team development. The role is structured to create a clear development path toward Controller as the individual demonstrates mastery of the business, earns the confidence of the leadership team, and shows readiness for enterprise level accounting ownership. Compensation The anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,000 to $160,000.
