Position Details

Shift: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM

Duration: 13 Weeks

Unit Information

Location: Anchorage, AK

Unit Type: High Acuity Stepdown Unit / Progressive Care

Number of Beds: 19

Staff Composition:

• Day Shift: 1 Charge RN & 6 RNs
• Night Shift: 1 Charge RN & 6 RNs

Patient Ratios: 3:1

Equipment: Bedside monitors, Alaris IV pumps, heated humidity high flow O2, BiPap, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, kangaroo feeding pumps, gastric tubes, surgical drains

EMR: EPIC

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Minimum 1 year of experience in step-down ICU/IMC/PCU
• 1 year of telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience

Preferred Skills:

• Experience supporting trach patients requiring continuous BiPap/long-term ventilator support
• Experience with titratable medications including dopamine, dobutamine, nitro, cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, and amiodarone
• Experience with CIWA assessments and alcohol/drug withdrawal treatments

Typical Procedures

Procedures performed on this unit include:

• Emergent cardioversion
• All procedures requiring moderate sedation will occur in a designated procedural area

• Comfortable in a busy, fast-paced environment with high patient throughput, including rapid response, emergency department admissions, and ICU transfers

Certifications Required

• ACLS
• BLS
• NIH-SS

Floating Areas

Potential floating to:

• Cardiac Surgery IMC
• Med-Tele
• Med-Surg
• Ortho-Neuro

Work Schedule

Mandatory weekend shifts: Every other weekend (alternatively 4 weekend shifts per month)

On-call shifts may be replaced with delayed starts if census is low.

Unit Guidelines

• Physical assessments, intake, and output must be completed every 4 hours
• Hourly safety rounds are required
• Every two-hour positioning and ADLs as indicated
• Bedside handoff is mandatory
