Job purpose As part of BELAY's Fully Accountable division, the CFO - Financial Solutions serves as a strategic financial advisor and fractional CFO to growing small- and mid-sized businesses. This role helps clients improve financial visibility, strengthen decision-making, optimize cash flow, and support sustainable growth. The CFO combines financial expertise with business insight to provide strategic guidance while partnering closely with internal accounting team members to deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality financial support. This role leads client engagements, proactively identifies risks and opportunities, and helps clients navigate periods of stabilization, growth, and transition. Essential Functions As a BELAY Corporate Team member, you will professionally represent the company in all virtual and in-person interactions. Financial Strategy & Advisory Lead financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and forecasting for assigned clients Develop and maintain budgets and 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts Analyze financial performance and translate results into actionable business insights Advise client leadership on growth initiatives, operational efficiency, cash flow, and risk management Identify financial risks, opportunities, and compliance considerations that may impact client performance or growth Support clients through periods of stabilization, growth, and business transition Client Leadership & Service Serve as a trusted financial advisor and strategic partner to client leadership Deliver timely monthly financial reporting, executive-level insights, and recommendations Lead financial discussions and communicate complex financial information in a clear, practical manner Monitor client engagement health and proactively identify opportunities for additional support, resources, or services Manage multiple client relationships and competing priorities while maintaining timely, high-quality service Cross-Functional Partnership Partner closely with accounting team members to ensure accurate financial reporting and alignment between day-to-day accounting activities and strategic financial priorities Provide financial guidance and direction while maintaining visibility into full-cycle accounting activities Collaborate across BELAY teams to support client needs and deliver a consistent client experience Identify and communicate opportunities to improve processes, financial visibility, and overall client outcomes Skills & Competencies Strategic financial planning and business advisory Financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management Strong business acumen and financial judgment Client relationship management and consultative communication Ability to translate financial information into clear, actionable recommendations Leadership, collaboration, and influencing skills Strong organization and prioritization across multiple client engagements Adaptability and problem-solving in evolving business environments Proficiency with accounting, financial reporting, and business technology platforms Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 6-8 years of experience as a CFO or in a senior-level strategic finance role Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting with the ability to provide strategic financial guidance based on underlying accounting activity Demonstrated experience with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis Experience managing multiple clients, engagements, or competing priorities while delivering accurate and timely work Strong client-facing communication and relationship management experience Preferred Qualifications CPA, MBA, or other relevant advanced degree or professional certification Experience in a fractional CFO, outsourced accounting, or professional services environment Experience advising small- and mid-sized businesses or startups Experience supporting inventory-based retail or e-commerce, creative or project-based businesses, or technology companies Experience with platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Fathom, Shopify, Cin7, and Amazon Working knowledge of accounting and tax methodologies and small business financial considerations Skills & Competencies Strategic financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management Strong financial analysis and business acumen Ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations Strong client relationship management and consultative communication skills Ability to influence and advise business leaders as a trusted financial partner Strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities Strong organization, attention to detail, and accountability Adaptability in fast-paced and evolving business environments Proficiency with accounting, financial reporting, and business technology platforms Working Conditions BELAY is a remote-first organization. This role requires a dedicated home office, regular use of virtual collaboration tools, and a work schedule that aligns with business needs and BELAY's core collaboration hours. Pay Range: $120,000-$175,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Starting Pay Range: Starting pay is determined within the full base pay range above, based on experience and qualifications. Other Types of Pay: None. Health Insurance: Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance are available to eligible employees. BELAY covers 70% of employee premiums and 65% of dependent premiums for medical, and 70% of employee premiums for dental and vision. Company-paid life insurance ($15,000 coverage) and short-term/long-term disability coverage (STD: 60% of weekly earnings up to $1,500; LTD: 60% of monthly earnings up to $10,000) are provided at no cost to full-time employees. Retirement Benefits: 401(k) plan through Vanguard, with a 4% discretionary employer match. Employees are eligible after 90 days of employment. Paid Time Off: Full-time (40 hr/week) employees receive 15 days of PTO annually; full-time (30 hr/week) employees receive 12 days. Additional PTO is awarded at 3- and 5-year tenure milestones. Paid Holidays: 12 paid holidays annually (New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and one floating holiday of the employee’s choosing).
