Job Description

This role focuses on fabricating sheet metal ductwork and fittings in a shop environment, using blueprints, drawings, measurements, and project specifications. You will lay out, cut, form, bend, assemble, and finish custom sheet metal duct components for commercial and industrial HVAC projects while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate custom sheet metal ductwork and HVAC components for commercial and industrial projects.
• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, mechanical drawings, and fabrication specifications to determine project requirements.
• Measure, lay out, cut, bend, form, and assemble sheet metal according to specifications.
• Fabricate rectangular, round, and spiral ductwork and fittings to meet project needs.
• Build custom fittings such as transitions, offsets, elbows, plenums, reducers, and related components.
• Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment and hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Assemble duct sections and fittings using appropriate seams, joints, fasteners, and connections.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances to ensure finished components meet project specifications and quality standards.
• Identify fabrication issues, troubleshoot problems, and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and quality.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow shop safety practices.

Essential Skills

• Previous sheet metal or HVAC duct fabrication experience.
• Experience working in a sheet metal or HVAC fabrication shop environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and shop drawings.
• Strong understanding of duct layout and fabrication principles.
• Proven experience fabricating custom fittings, including transitions, offsets, elbows, and plenums.
• Ability to accurately use tape measures and other measuring and layout tools.
• Hands-on experience with sheet metal hand and power tools.
• Ability to work independently from drawings while maintaining close attention to measurements and fabrication quality.
• Proficiency in sheet metal fabrication, including duct work and duct fabrication processes.
• Experience operating equipment such as press brakes, shears, plasma cutters, and Pittsburgh machines.
• Basic welding experience related to sheet metal fabrication.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fabrication shop setting dedicated to sheet metal and HVAC ductwork production. You will regularly work with equipment such as press brakes, shears, plasma cutters, Pittsburgh machines, and various hand and power tools. The environment is hands-on and production-focused, requiring consistent attention to safety procedures and proper use of tools and machinery. Work involves standing for extended periods, handling sheet metal materials, and performing repetitive fabrication tasks while maintaining accuracy and quality.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Winston Salem, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $37.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
