Job Description
The Production Supervisor oversees and trains production and packaging associates, ensuring that all procedures are followed safely and efficiently. This role coordinates daily operations on the production floor, monitors scrap levels, and addresses food safety and quality issues as needed. The Production Supervisor also manages scheduling and administers disciplinary actions when required to maintain a high-performing team and consistent production standards.
Responsibilities
- Supervise production and packaging associates during daily operations to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to established procedures.
- Train production and packaging team members on processes, safety practices, and quality standards to maintain consistent performance.
- Coordinate and monitor production procedures to optimize throughput, reduce waste, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Track, report, and interpret scrap levels, using data to identify issues and implement corrective actions.
- Identify and address food safety and quality issues promptly, escalating concerns when necessary to protect product integrity.
- Manage employee schedules for the production and packaging teams, ensuring appropriate staffing levels for each shift.
- Administer disciplinary actions when needed, following established guidelines to support a fair and accountable work environment.
- Promote and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety protocols across the production floor.
- Support process improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce operational waste.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and leadership, providing updates on production status, issues, and improvements.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience as a supervisor in a packaging or production environment.
- Hands-on experience working in a food production environment with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead, coach, and develop production and packaging associates.
- Proven production management and production supervision experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Good verbal communication skills for clear direction, feedback, and coordination with team members and other departments.
- Good written communication skills for documentation, reporting, and procedural updates.
- Solid understanding of safety practices and the ability to enforce safety standards on the production floor.
- Ability to monitor and interpret scrap levels and use this information to drive improvements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience applying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in daily operations.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing principles and process improvement initiatives.
- General management skills, including performance management and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work effectively on a third shift schedule and manage teams working overnight hours.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment where conditions can be hot and dirty in some areas.
