TITLE: Assistant Nurse Manager JOB OVERVIEW: Under general direction by the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) utilizes the nursing process to prescribe, prioritize, delegate, and provide safe, therapeutic allocation of nursing resources to patients/families. The ANM makes independent judgments, decisions, and acts regarding a wide range of routine and complex staffing and unit workflow issues. The ANM collaborates with appropriate disciplines to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission through discharge in support of the medical and nursing plans of care. DEPARTMENT: Patient Care Services WORK HOURS: As required to fulfill responsibilities REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager, Director, or designee Prerequisites Licensed to practice registered nursing in the state of WA, required. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. Minimum three years of professional nursing experience, including demonstrated skill and preference for adult education (preceptor, charge nurse, unit‑based skills, etc.). Proficient in EPIC. Nursing certification eligible. TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer certification preferred. Qualifications Capable of comprehending, executing, and acting within scope of practice. Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in English. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills in a diverse population. Proven ability to set priorities, produce accurate work, and deliver quality patient care consistent with the organization standards. Demonstrates ability to work in a collaborative manner. Flexible and adaptable. Demonstrates leadership skills with the ability to lead and manage a team, utilize clinical judgment, clinical inquiry, and systems thinking. Motivated and able to problem‑solve complex situations. Demonstrates interpersonal skills that are community centered, compassionate, and meet the needs of diverse and vulnerable populations. Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional development of all age groups. Ability to access information and communicate in an electronic environment including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office suite, email, and computer documentation skills. Self‑directed in advancing professional practice through continuing education. Physical/Mental Demands, Environment & Working Conditions Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients. Manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination required. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds in emergency situations. Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to communicate effectively in oral and written fashion. Requires working under changing conditions. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids and other conditions common to the clinical environment. Essential Responsibilities & Competencies Delivery of high‑quality nursing care and promote a culture of service excellence. Lead and manage unit staffing, scheduling, and workflow to ensure efficient operations. Serve as a consultant for clinical, educational, and quality initiatives within the unit. Evaluate and develop staff competencies, including orientation, competency assessment, and ongoing education. Provide mentorship and preceptorship to new hires and staff requiring skill development. Actively participate in interdisciplinary communication and TeamSTEPPS collaboration with other disciplines. Manage staff performance, including observations, feedback, and performance improvement processes. Administer unit‑specific clinical competencies and assure documentation and reporting for regulatory compliance. Serve as EPIC unit super‑user and assist staff with electronic health record usage. Support quality and safety initiatives including process improvement, incident reporting, and evidence‑based practice. Facilitate continuous education and CEU tracking for the nursing team. Participate in recruitment, interview, and selection of new staff. Coordinate unit activities with department leadership, business analysts, and scheduling resources. Serve as a resource for educational resources, equipment, and policy interpretation.
