Start Date: November 30, 2026 (Orientation held every other Thursday)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 3x12 night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, weekdays with every other weekend required. Option for 36 or 48 guaranteed hours per week. Float to Emergency Department as needed. No call requirements.

Highlights:

• Emergency Department Holding Unit specializing in observation patients including chest pain rule-out, TIA, chronic anemia, and CHF/COPD exacerbations
• 5:1 nurse-to-patient ratio with adult and geriatric patient population
• Cerner charting system in a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital with 838 staffed beds
• Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and more
• Free parking for travelers and structured orientation program
• Overtime available after 48 hours for those selecting 4x12 schedules

Requirements:

• Active West Virginia or Compact RN License (pending license accepted for submission but must be active by start date)
• Minimum 2 years RN experience required; minimum 1 year in-specialty experience required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (American Heart Association), and CPI (must be obtained minimum 1 week before start)
• Cerner EMR experience required
• MS/Telemetry, Telemetry, and ER Holding experience strongly preferred
• Proficiency in IV therapy/phlebotomy including accessing ports, blood product administration, peripheral line management, and starting IVs
• Experience with heparin protocols and managing cardiac drips (no titration)
• Competency in neurological/psychiatric care including CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal
• Respiratory care skills including CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience with care of ventilated patients and tracheostomy management preferred
• Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references from the past 2 years
• Flu vaccination required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medical exemption provided
• Permanent address must be 100+ miles from facility (75-99 miles considered case-by-case)
• First-time travelers accepted with appropriate experience
