Job Overview Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or delegate, assists in the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating activities in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area. Qualifications High School Diploma Excellent communication skills Exceptional organizational skills At least 1 year of related experience (preferred) Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred) Scheduling Requirements Shift 7:00 am – 3:00 pm Per Diem, flexible as needed Essential Functions Always identifies correct patient charts and reports before filing; verifies information and takes corrective action. Ensures accuracy at all times. Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology and asks questions to clarify misunderstandings. Documents patients' allergies in appropriate forms. Ensures a safe environment in aspects of care, equipment, and treatment. Maintains confidentiality and privacy of patient information at all times. Provides assistance to staff in the organized workflow of daily unit operations. Secures needed unit services such as maintenance, security, and housekeeping. Understands the importance of communication. Follows through on messages timely and to the appropriate staff member. Maintains communication with the Admitting Department and cooperates with room assignments. Notifies the nurse upon arrival of an admission. Assists nurses by picking up and delivering specimens, medications, charts, requisitions, etc. to different departments and via dumbwaiter as requested. Identifies and reports potential and actual patient safety issues. Complies with national patient safety goals and applicable policies. Demonstrates the 4Cs of Commitment, Compassion, Competence, and Communication. Promotes patient satisfaction through courteous interaction with staff, physicians, patients, and visitors. Responds to patient and visitor inquiries and comments, referring to appropriate personnel as indicated. Performs required clerical work related to admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. Conducts hourly rounds, answers phone calls, and rings bells. Keeps the unit supplied with all necessary stationery and supplies at all times. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and equipment and orders supplies as needed with cost awareness. Maintains the station orderly and neat.
