Position Summary The Mental Health Therapist provides diagnostic assessments, referrals for psychiatric services, case management in coordination with other teams, individual counseling, crisis stabilization, suicide risk assessment and treatment planning, and leads groups. The therapist also assists the Program Manager with policy development, compliance with WACs and RCWs, and other administrative tasks as directed. Duties and Responsibilities Assist in ensuring agency compliance with WACs, RCWs and other relevant laws and regulations. Help develop and implement policies and procedures under the direction of the Program Manager. Educate staff on mental health referral processes and psycho‑educational topics such as suicide risk assessment and behavior modification. Maintain documentation of mental health services and follow up in patient charts. Provide diagnostic assessments for each patient, document outcomes, justify diagnoses and communicate results with the primary Chemical Dependency Counselor. Apply knowledge of growth and development to give age‑appropriate care for infants, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. Refer patients to psychiatric services as needed and coordinate care with external providers. Monitor medication effects, give feedback to psychiatrists, and provide consultation on mental health and behavioral issues. Develop individualized treatment plans and provide crisis stabilization, suicide risk assessment, and individual counseling. Utilize case management to ensure follow‑through and build community support for patients. Maintain confidentiality and offer guidance on challenging situations. Deliver a minimum of 80 hours of face‑to‑face contact and 80 encounters each month. Qualifications Master’s degree in psychology, counseling or social work with coursework in psychological diagnostics. At least four years of professional experience in the field. Meet the criteria of a Mental Health Professional (MHP). Active Washington State Agency‑Affiliated Counselor License or Mental Health Associate License (Marriage and Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, or Clinical Social Worker). Current tuberculosis test. Signed permanent oath of confidentiality covering all patient information. Successful completion of an annual clinical competency test for mental health therapists. Pass a Washington State Patrol background check. Ability to accurately diagnose mental health issues and develop treatment plans based on diagnoses. Knowledge of chemical‑dependency treatment and coordination of services with chemical‑dependency providers. Language skills: read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of employees. Mathematical skills: basic calculations, interpreting rates, ratios, percentages, and bar graphs. Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic or scheduled instructions. Work Environment The position may require evening and weekend hours. The employee will use hands frequently and stand, walk, sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl intermittently, and may lift up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. The employee must maintain a close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Compensation Hourly: $33.23.
