Tool & Die Maker
Volkert Precision Technologies Inc.
Constructs, alters, and repairs a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling, shaper, and grinders to machine parts. Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders. Draws preliminary sketches, prepares layout and detailed drawings. Develops strategies for fabricating designed dies using the most suitable fixtures such as bushings and tool bits to incorporate into design. Meets all quality and efficiency expectations. Complies with safety and regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas. Education minimum 4 years of high school or vocational school, completion of an apprentice program a plus. Work experience minimum of 3 years. Ability to read and write English. Interprets engineering specifications, including operative sheets, drawings, and sketches. Mathematical aptitude: demonstrated ability to use shop mathematics, including geometric and trigonometric formulas. Works with close dimensional tolerances and uses all types of precision measuring instruments. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Able to work independently.
