Elementary Assistant Principal

Overview July 15, 2026 School City of East Chicago 2026-2027 School Year POSITION: Elementary Assistant Principal REPORTS TO: Building Principal JOB SUMMARY: Provides instructional leadership to staff including curriculum review and implementation and professional development. Responsible for day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff, and activities. Ensures a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, enforces school policy, and provides discipline as necessary. Required Qualifications Valid Indiana Administrators License Successful experience in elementary education Experience in Title I program/school Experience in Special Education program/school Experience in urban educational environment Responsibilities Serves as the administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance Assists with staff evaluations Manages building staff including class schedules and building problems Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers Assists scheduling special events during the school day Assists with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule Provides general supervision to students; supervises extracurricular activities Maintains relationship with parents and community Serves as an instructional leader in the building Must possess written communication skills, including the ability to draft, edit, and proofread emails, as well as reading comprehension to respond to those emails Assists principal in overseeing all school improvement initiatives Desired Qualifications Experience in building management and support services Work in culturally/diverse educational environment Knowledge of instructional systems technologies Experience in supervision/evaluation of school personnel Experience in a full service school Knowledge of current education/research based school and student initiatives Performs other related duties, as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties Start Date: Upon Board Approval Application Deadline: Opened until filled Please submit a letter of interest and credentials/resume to: External applicants must complete an application online Director of Human Resources 1401 E. 141 Street East Chicago, IN 46312 Email: View email address on click.appcast.io Look for postings online at Links/JOB OPENINGS #J-18808-Ljbffr
