Job Description

The Test Technician is responsible for performing electrical testing, inspection, and documentation activities for medical device products within a regulated manufacturing environment. This role ensures that camera video systems and related electronic devices meet design, quality, and regulatory requirements by executing standardized test procedures, operating a range of test equipment, and accurately maintaining device history records. The Test Technician supports daily production operations, contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, and upholds Good Manufacturing and Good Documentation Practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing by performing daily production testing of camera video systems and related medical device products.

  • Perform electrical testing of Camera Control Units (CCU), Shaver Console Units (SCU), Electro Surgical Units (ESU), and Camera Heads (CH) using Final Checkout (FCO), Final Checklist (FCL), and other automated or manual test methods.

  • Conduct testing of electronic components, sub-assemblies, and finished systems in accordance with approved test instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality standards.

  • Operate a variety of test equipment, including computer-based test programs, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, waveform monitors, light measurement tools, and other digital and analog electrical test instruments.

  • Set up and operate a variety of hand tools and electronic equipment to manufacture and test products as specified on work orders using standard work instructions and inspection procedures.

  • Perform detailed electrical test procedures and accurately document results in Device History Records (DHR) in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

  • Record test procedures, numerical and graphical data, test failures, and non-conformances, and document information for Material Review Board (MRB), repair, or component replacement as required.

  • Review test data and provide recommendations for changes or improvements to products or processes to enhance yield and process performance.

  • Access and follow packaging, test, and work instructions through product lifecycle management (PLM) and document management systems based on product structure requirements.

  • Perform detailed visual inspections to verify that products meet design specifications, functional criteria, and quality standards.

  • Inspect completed work and associated documentation to ensure correct specifications and functional requirements are met before release.

  • Manage multiple production tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload effectively, and respond to special assignments or urgent tasks as needed.

  • Participate in product, process, and company training activities in support of medical device manufacturing and ongoing competency development.

  • Perform or initiate cleaning activities in the work area and carry out preventive maintenance tasks as required by the department preventive maintenance schedule.

  • Maintain workstation cleanliness, initiate Area Clearance procedures, and ensure proper material traceability in the production area.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, demonstrating compliance with procedures, and explaining test processes as needed.

  • Maintain and follow electrostatic discharge (ESD) procedures and controlled work environment standards to protect sensitive electronic components.

  • Communicate technical findings, test results, issues, and improvement ideas clearly and professionally to team members and leadership.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Approximately 1 year of formal training and/or education in electronics design, repair, or troubleshooting, or up to 5 years of work experience in an electronics environment.

  • Experience in system analysis, testing, and troubleshooting to the component or board level preferred.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with electrical test processes and procedures preferred.

  • Ability to perform electrical testing of electronic components, sub-assemblies, and finished systems using standardized test methods.

  • Proficiency with digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, waveform monitors, and light measurement equipment.

  • Ability to operate computer-based test programs and digital and analog electrical test equipment.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying and documenting test failures, non-conformances, and potential root causes.

  • Ability to follow detailed test instructions, SOPs, work instructions, and inspection procedures accurately and consistently.

  • Competence in documenting test results in Device History Records and using database or documentation systems for data entry and retrieval.

  • Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and medical device industry standards.

  • Strong attention to detail for performing visual inspections and verifying compliance with specifications and functional criteria.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and adapt to changing production needs.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting results and communicating technical information to team members.

  • Ability to work in a controlled manufacturing environment and follow ESD and safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Formal education or coursework in electronics design, repair, or troubleshooting is highly beneficial.

  • Hands-on experience in an electronics or medical device manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with camera video systems, including Camera Control Units (CCU), Shaver Console Units (SCU), Electro Surgical Units (ESU), and Camera Heads (CH).

  • Experience using product lifecycle management (PLM) and document management systems to access and follow work instructions and product structures.

  • Ability to interpret numerical and graphical test data and provide recommendations for process or product improvements.

  • Experience supporting internal and external audits within a regulated environment.

  • Comfort with using a variety of hand tools and assembly methods for electronic products.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain clean, orderly, and compliant workstations.

Work Environment

The position involves close collaboration with production, quality, and engineering teams in a structured, process-driven environment focused on safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
