Cath Lab Charge Nurse

At Houston Methodist, the Charge Nurse II Department Premium ADN position is a licensed professional Registered Nurse (RN) who is experienced in clinical practice. The role creates an environment for safe patient care, mentors and coaches department personnel, and leads unit and hospital-wide initiatives. FLSA Status: Non-exempt QUALIFICATIONS Education Graduate of a program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below. Experience Two years’ clinical nursing experience with progressive leadership skills. Licenses and Certifications – Required RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure – Texas Board of Nursing; PSV Compact Licensure – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency). BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) – American Heart Association. Other credentials and certifications as defined by unit/service line. Licenses and Certifications – Preferred Magnet – ANCC Recognized Certification. Coaches staff to use efficient and effective communication to establish and maintain a team environment, including patients and families in care planning. Provides input into staff performance reviews and mentors new employees, students, and preceptorships. Fosters staff engagement through active listening, equitable decisions, and support of organizational goals. Assists with staff stress management and improves department scores for employee engagement. SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Leads patient and family-centered care standards and responds to emergency codes and specialty populations. Engages in leader rounding and collaborates across departments to improve patient care processes. Drives department service standards, improving patient satisfaction scores through accountability. QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Models nursing process standards and actively participates in improving quality indicators and patient safety goals. Coordinated nursing care across shifts, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Facilitates seamless patient flow, monitors documentation, and collaborates on timely patient placement. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, reporting near misses, and using teachable moments to enhance safety. FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Attends daily care coordination rounds and follows up on identified concerns. Provides input on unit resource utilization, including capital and operational budget needs. Manages productivity per staffing grid and encourages timely documentation to meet financial targets. GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Encourages innovative solutions to improve patient care or operations, leading or participating in projects and shared governance. Supports change initiatives, adapts to unexpected changes, and disseminates educational resources to improve quality. Maintains and updates My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.
