Engineering Director, Focal Therapies

Engineering Director leading the development of focal therapy robotic platforms and medical instruments at Intuitive Surgical. This role oversees cross-functional engineering teams through all phases of complex product development, from concept through commercialization, while driving strategic vision aligned with business and patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Establish long-term technical product vision and strategy aligned with business priorities
• Direct concurrent hardware, software, and systems development across multiple programs from early stage through launch
• Lead and manage multiple technical teams through resource allocation, performance management, hiring, and budget oversight
• Define hardware and software engineering direction to satisfy design requirements and ensure system integration
• Communicate program status to senior leadership, external customers, and key stakeholders

Requirements

• 15+ years progressive people and operations leadership experience
• Successful medical technology development from customer need identification through product launch
• Demonstrated technical and tactical leadership in startup environments within larger organizations
• Strong communication skills with internal teams, stakeholders, regulators, and key opinion leaders
• Experience developing and leading high-capability technical teams and managing complex programs
• Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, scientific, or healthcare-related discipline
• Experience with medical product ecosystem and intellectual property fundamentals
