Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer - Ground Improvements

Location: Manhattan, NY

Compensation: $140,000 to $210,000 Base Salary + Benefits

A well-established specialty geotechnical contractor is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join its New York City team.

This is an opportunity to work on some of the most technically challenging construction projects in the New York metropolitan area, supporting complex foundation and ground improvement solutions from concept through construction. The role is heavily focused on design and engineering, with particular emphasis on rigid inclusions and other ground improvement systems used on large-scale urban developments and infrastructure projects.

Unlike traditional consulting positions, this role provides direct involvement throughout the entire project lifecycle. Engineers work closely with construction teams, clients, and project stakeholders, seeing designs progress from initial concept through successful field implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of ground improvement systems, with a strong emphasis on rigid inclusions
• Develop geotechnical calculations, technical reports, design memoranda, and construction recommendations
• Support deep foundation, ground improvement, and earth retention projects throughout the New York metropolitan area
• Provide technical oversight and review of engineering deliverables
• Collaborate with project managers, estimators, construction personnel, and clients to develop practical engineering solutions
• Participate in value engineering and alternative foundation studies
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
• Support construction operations by addressing field-related engineering challenges and design modifications

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
• Approximately 15+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience
• Strong design experience involving rigid inclusions, ground improvement, deep foundations, or related geotechnical systems
• Solid understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and construction methods
• Experience working on large commercial, infrastructure, transportation, or development projects
• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact directly with clients and project teams
