Technical Designer III - Industrial

NELSON is currently seeking a Technical Designer III to join our Industrial Practice . The Technical Designer III is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing the development of construction documents utilizing creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead, facilitate and manage the overall design process for moderately complex projects independently and support larger complex projects under supervision. Contribute to developing fee proposals. Develop innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and functions, reflective of client goals and within project budget. Selection and specification of materials, products, and architectural systems. Support the Project Manager in establishing project goals and objectives including workplan, schedule, budget parameters. Assist Project Manager in sub‑contracting or the coordination of sub‑consultant’s work. Serve as team lead in keeping the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule in conjunction with Project Manager. Responsible for communication and coordination of other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provide support as necessary. Lead the Construction Administration phase responding to RFIs, COs, reviewing shop drawings and involved in field site reviews. Ensure project documentation is compliant with NELSON standard for all projects and processes. May assist with negotiating fees and sub‑contracts. Develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards. Prepare D & D presentation/design drawings. Provide research and compile data during project phases. Prepare and modify interior architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc. Support the team in collecting information for client assessment; may attend interviews, provide documentation support. Conduct design charrettes and lead project team meetings. Complete timesheet and expense reports accurately and on time. Required Knowledge and Skills Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer‑supplier appropriateness; consistently share such knowledge with teammates. Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Advanced knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art signage, color and materials to carry out design intent. Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines. Knowledge of expectations related to high quality service to clients. Good understanding of building regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirements. Good understanding of the construction process. Good understanding of project budgets and schedules. Good knowledge of the construction process as it relates to the drawings being produced. Ability to hand draw and sketch. Ability to communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks as needed to complete within the identified time frame. Ability to manage time working to project deadlines. Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred. Basic proficiency in Deltek Vision / Vantagepoint is preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD /Architectural Desktop and Revit is required. Educational and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or related field. + years’ experience; or equivalent in appropriate education and experience working in the field of Architecture.
