Process Engineer III As an S&C Electric team member, you’ll work on projects that have real-world impact, helping transform the grid for resilient and reliable power worldwide. Your role will advance a safer, more reliable, and more resilient electrical grid, supporting the adaptation to severe weather and the transition to clean energy. Hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (On‑Site, Chicago, IL) Compensation The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $106,073‑$140,550. Individual pay within this range is determined by performance, knowledge, job‑related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP) subject to eligibility criteria. Key Responsibilities Perform project engineering on process systems assigned by the Manager‑Process Engineering, including cleaning‑phosphating‑powder paint systems, electroplating, liquid painting, vacuum systems, vacuum brazing, waste treatment, material handling, and related automation. Prepare design criteria, feasibility assessments, treatability and pilot trials, functional descriptions and sequences of operations, calculations, equipment selection, drawings, sketches, layouts, and specifications. Author process quality specifications, define process limits, analyze failures and process improvements, and complete production acceptance/qualification of materials. Prepare cost estimates, schedules, purchase documents, drawing reviews, and field work for capital projects. Conduct field surveys, validate layouts, and produce CAD drawings. Coordinate work with outside contractors and in‑house maintenance, exercising sound judgment and decision‑making for assigned responsibilities. Job Requirements 5‑10 years of progressive experience in Quality, Design, Operations, Process, Maintenance or Manufacturing Engineering. Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline. Experience taking ownership and working independently within a collaborative environment, resolving technical issues and improving safety, quality, delivery and cost. Budget and cost estimating experience for capital projects exceeding $500,000. Ability to prepare calculations, P&IDs, specifications, functional descriptions, equipment schedules, isometrics and interpret wiring diagrams/controls. Familiarity with process controls, automation, material handling systems and commissioning of manufacturing equipment. Excellent MS Office and PowerPoint skills. Knowledge of ISO‑9001 Quality Management System practices. Experience with systematic problem‑solving methods such as DMAIC, RCA, 5‑Why, A3, 8D, etc. Unit operations and support system assessment‑implementation skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Basic bookkeeping/project accounting skills. Preferred Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab, R or SPSS. Knowledge of industry codes and standards (ACS, AIChE, ASME, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, OSHA, UL, Chicago Code). Major Physical Demands Standing, sitting for hours, walking, occasional carrying of light objects, infrequent pushing of objects. Frequent observation of details at close range, requiring depth perception, peripheral vision and color differentiation. Standard office environment.
