Juvenile Supervision Officer

Description This is a challenging land stewardship position assigned to working in the field and with contractors on stewardship activities relating to the management and protection of all preserves acquired through the Conservation 2020 (C202/20) Program. Duties and Responsibilities The applicant must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with contractors and the general public, both orally and through written communication. The incumbent may supervise volunteers or trustee labor. The incumbent must be willing to work in hot, buggy and wet field conditions with minimal direct supervision. The incumbent will assist the Conservation 20/20 Program in the implementation of land stewardship plans for each C20/20 Preserve. This includes debris removal, boundary protection, invasive exotic plant control, prescribed burning, and other restoration activities. The incumbent shall maintain land stewardship equipment (i.e., chainsaws, weed eater, hand tools, sprayers, etc.) in good working order. The incumbent shall operate all equipment and vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. The incumbent may care for park facilities at Conservation 20/20 preserves including daily cleaning and inspection of restrooms and other facilities, landscaping, etc. The incumbents must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials. The incumbent must be comfortable working alone in the field, and must possess customer service skills to deal with the public in a prompt, professional and courteous manner, maintaining composure under stress, be flexible and adapt to change. Education, Experience, Licensing Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year work experience in Parks and Recreation, Land Stewardship or related field. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required. The position requires working long hours outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Supplemental Information Prefer knowledge and/or experience in exotic pest plant control and the ability to identify native and non-native flora and fauna. Experience operating four-wheel drive vehicles, ATVs, boats and tractor with front-end loader is preferred. The incumbent should have basic math and reading skills. Must have the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Work Hours and Days will vary to include evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Emergency Response/Recovery Activities All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
