ASSISTANT DIRECTOR SPECIAL SERVICES

Special Services Assistant Director will assist in building the capacity of principals to improve the understanding, teaching and learning of special needs students in elementary/secondary schools. The administrator will have decision‑making power to address day‑to‑day academic and operational school issues concerning special education and will be responsible for ensuring the district's mission and goals are achieved. Collaboration with multiple departments to ensure consistency of practice and use of resources will be essential as this position works continuously to improve the skills and knowledge base of elementary/secondary school administrators. Under the supervision of the Director of Special Services, the employee performs most work independently and performance is evaluated by results. Responsibilities Coordinates services for special needs students to include transportation, placement and instructional supports. Coaches and supports elementary/secondary administrators in the understanding and administration of IDEA. Plans and coordinates with the special education training team to provide high‑quality and relevant learning experiences for elementary/secondary administrators so they can ensure effective instruction for students with disabilities. Attends special education IEP/MEEGS/Behavior meetings as needed in order to provide guidance and assistance in the meetings to ensure a culture of engagement with staff, families, and community. Conducts regular formal and informal classroom walkthroughs aligned to student achievement and strategic goals. Coordinates and plans ESY services for elementary special needs students. Coordinates and ensures the district's compliance to State and Federal laws concerning transition from part C to public schools. Serves as a liaison between schools and all related service personnel. Works with various district, area, and state‑level committees or council meetings/organizations to create a culture of engagement (Military child, SPED Handbook, Workload Committee, etc.). Assists parents, administrators, and staff in resolving issues concerning special education/504/compliance issues. Creates a culture of inquiry and mutual accountability concerning special education law among elementary/secondary administrators. Other Duties Initiates and maintains effective liaisons to maintain a current knowledge of developments and research in the profession. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services or other appropriate administrator. Requirements Professional employment experience in the field of public education. Master's degree in the area of administration or special education. Hold a valid Oklahoma Administrators Certificate. Employment type: Full‑time, permanent, 12 months.
